Students in the Painting area of study are encouraged to work with a full and varied range of approaches, including those that lie outside traditional boundaries. Priority is given to exposing students to current developments and practices as well as providing a solid grasp of painting fundamentals.
Students are encouraged to develop an individual style while being challenged to solve a wide range of studio problems. Of obvious benefit in this regard is the opportunity to study with faculty members who are highly productive, who have extensive professional experience, and whose work demonstrates a considerable range in style and technique. Visiting artists and critics each semester complement instruction by regular faculty.
